A look back at Mobile World Congress 2017.

From 27 February to 2 March 2017, Mobapi exhibited in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest mobile technology show. A third appearance for the team, and a show that lived up to its billing.

Visitors in suits, seen from behind, walk towards the entrance of the show: a long white facade bearing the “Mobile World Congress” banner and the word “Welcome”.

A third trip to Barcelona.

The team came in 2015 and again in 2016, to gather feedback on a platform that was still being built. This year, six months after the service finally went live, we came to present our API platform for mobile apps and to launch our international expansion at the show. No less.

This year’s show brought together more than 108,000 professionals from 208 countries, and 2,300 companies exhibited. A chance to meet the industry’s giants, to test ourselves against the international market and to get a feel for the trends of the moment. We were back on the French Tech Pavilion, alongside other French start-ups. The only company from the French overseas territories on the pavilion, as it happens.

The tally.

More than 100 demonstrations, for visitors from all over the world. Conversations in English, Spanish, Québécois, Brazilian, Korean and even Russian (or near enough). Meetings across a wide range of sectors: large retailers, telecoms, agencies, IT services firms, IoT, ERP, investment funds. Several interviews recorded, on video for Bpifrance and Sigfox, on the radio for RFI.

Mobapi’s stand: below the logo, a large screen explains how the platform works. In front of it, a tablet and a laptop running demonstrations.

And about a kilo of jamón ibérico put away by each of us, offset, we hope, by ten kilometres or so of walking a day.

What happens next is still to be written. Partnerships and collaborations are taking shape, and it is too early to say more.
